Unit Classification Help
Overview
Unit Classification is a configuration step performed in the "Unit Classification" tab of the Delivery Management page. It assigns each KEYVOX smart lock unit registered to your facility a role in the delivery system. Correct classification enables delivery person entrance authentication and per-room slip management.
Classification Types
| Classification | Badge Color | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Entrance | Blue | The shared building entrance lock. Unlocked when a delivery person authenticates with a valid slip number (one per facility only) |
| Room | Green | An individual unit lock. Linked to a room name; unlocks when a slip registered for that room's resident is used |
| Unclassified | Gray | Units not used in the delivery workflow |
Step-by-Step: Classifying Units
Step 1: Open the Unit Classification Tab
Navigate to the Delivery Management page and click the "Unit Classification" tab. All KEYVOX units registered to your facility are displayed as cards.
Step 2: Set a Unit as the Entrance
- Locate the card for the unit installed at the shared building entrance
- Select the "Set as Entrance" radio button on that card
- The change saves immediately. The card gains a blue border and background, and displays the "Entrance" badge
Only one unit can be set as the entrance per facility. Once an entrance is set, the "Set as Entrance" radio button on all other unit cards shows "(Entrance already set)" and cannot be selected.
Step 3: Set a Unit as a Room Lock
- Locate the card for the unit installed at an individual room door
- Select the "Set as Room" radio button
- A room name dropdown appears next to the radio button
- Choose the matching room name from the dropdown
- The selection saves immediately. The card shows the "Room" badge and the linked room name
Selecting "Set as Room" alone does not save the classification — you must also choose a room from the dropdown.
Step 4: Set a Unit as Unclassified
Select the "Set as Unclassified" radio button. The classification is cleared immediately, and any linked room association is removed.
Reading a Unit Card
Each unit card displays the following information.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Device Name | The KEYVOX device name |
| Place Name | The physical location name of the device |
| Classification Badge | Current classification: Entrance, Room, or Unclassified |
| Assigned Room | Shown when the unit is classified as a room |
Visual Highlight for the Entrance Unit
The card for the unit set as the entrance is displayed with a blue border and a light blue background. This makes it easy to identify the entrance unit at a glance when multiple units are listed.
Processing Indicator
While a classification change is being saved (communicating with the API), the card becomes semi-transparent and interactions are temporarily disabled. The card returns to its normal state once the save completes.
Important Notes
- Always configure exactly one entrance unit: Without an entrance unit set, delivery persons who enter a slip number receive an "Entrance not configured" error and no unlock code is issued
- Always link a room name to room units: After selecting "Set as Room", you must choose a room from the dropdown before the classification is saved
- Changes take effect immediately: Updates are reflected in the delivery authentication logic right away
- Rooms are managed in the Rooms tab: The dropdown lists only rooms added in the "Rooms" tab of the same Delivery Management page. If no rooms appear in the dropdown, add rooms first in the Rooms tab
FAQ
Q: No units appear in the Unit Classification tab
A: Your KEYVOX integration may not be fully configured. Go to the Lock Connection page and verify that your KEYVOX units are registered correctly.
Q: The "Set as Entrance" radio button cannot be selected
A: Another unit is already set as the entrance. The radio button shows "(Entrance already set)" in this case. To change the entrance, first select "Set as Unclassified" on the current entrance unit card to clear it, then select "Set as Entrance" on the new unit.
Q: The room I want to link does not appear in the dropdown
A: Check the "Rooms" tab on the Delivery Management page and confirm the room has been added. After adding a room, return to the Unit Classification tab — the room will appear in the dropdown.
Q: How do I move the entrance designation to a different unit?
A: Select "Set as Unclassified" on the current entrance unit card to remove the entrance designation. Then select "Set as Entrance" on the new unit.
Q: Why does delivery person authentication fail after I change classifications?
A: Check the following:
- Is exactly one entrance unit set?
- Does each room unit have a room name linked?
- Is a resident registered for the target room? (Check the Residents tab)
